Annual trip across the water provides great preparation for SCL opener

The Eastern Rhinos started their summer season with a successful trip to the Rotterdam 9’s competition in the Netherlands but suffered the disappointment of defeat by the RAF Regiments side in the final.

The competition was competed for by ten sides from six countries from as far away as Serbia. The Rhinos quickly progressed through the early rounds including a group stages win over the RAF Regiments side. The sides met again in the grand final, both scoring three tries in a thrilling match, the RAF Regiments winning 18 – 12 as they successfully converted all of their tries. This is the second year in succession the Rhinos have finished runners up. In 2018 they lost to the Brussels Gorillas on golden point after the scores were even at the end of extra time.

Head Coach and organiser of the tour Peter Le Marquand was pleased with the overall result “ We played some excellent rugby league, the atmosphere and welcome in Rotterdam was great and it has been a great team building exercise with the start of the new season only a 2 weeks away.”

The Eastern Rhinos start this seasons league fixtures away to London West Warriors the 27th April and their first home game is against Bedford on the 4th May 2019 at Colchester Rugby Cub KO 2-30 pm.
